Kiev: They Said It Couldn't Be Done -- It Is!!
'What a great event! Sometimes, I had to check that I was still in Kiev! These people do things with such an incredible spirit of faith and excellence.'
That was Mal Fletcher's response following his visit to the Hillsong Conference, Kiev.
Kiev, capital of the Ukraine, was a communist-governed city not so very long ago. Today, it is home to three vibrant churches of over one thousand people. Hillsong, Kiev is one of those. In fact, it is the largest church in the nation pastored by a native Ukrainian.
During the conference, the church also celebrated it's ten year anniversary, with a special banquet.
Pioneered by an apostolic Australian leader, Pastor Darko Culjak, the church is now led by two of its very first converts, Pastors Zhenya and Vera Kasevich.
Ten years ago, Zhenya and Vera were musicians without a home and with no Christian heritage. God has done amazing things in and through them in the past few years, taking their church from just a few people to over 1500.
The Hillsong Conference featured teaching for pastors and leaders from many nations in the former eastern bloc, plus workshops on worship and a youth stream. Two of the biggest nights featured the recording of a new Russian-language Hillsong album, and a youth event called Explosion.
Mal was the key speaker at the event and has this to add for all our friends and partners: 'Please take Hillsong Kiev to heart as one of your key prayer points. I can't speak highly enough of what Zhenya and Vera and their team are doing.'
'We need to get behind them in every way possible, as they are doing something people have said cannot be done!'

Hey Mal, I'm in Melbourne & grabbed your book Making God Famous. I was inspired as you told the story of leaving Youth Alive & going to Europe. People who maintain their passion are an encouragement to us all.

Mal, it was good to see you at Christian Broadcasters Conference 07. You have an insight & perspective that's extremely helpful as the UK Christian Broadcasting industry slowly grows up & matures.
Tim, United Kingdom
Passion: I think it flew out the window the moment political correctnes reared its ugly head! So much in the world today is bland and lacking in intensity but I don't want to calm down!
