Euro Leaders Issue Statement Of Hope
Christian leaders need to do more to assist people who are disadvantaged by the new global economy.
That was just one of the key statements in a Statement of Intent published by European church network leaders recently.
Churches, said the document, can establish very successful self-help programmes to provide
those who have few assets with a chance to build a better future. They can also be among the most creative group's in the community; operating as the new 'merchants of cool' and redefining what 'a better life' is.
The statement also called on church leaders to help Christians resist the values of 'McWorld', in a society which is obsessed with the Western lifestyle dream.
The leaders, from 17 nations, also committed themselves to help Christians become better stewards of time, the new currency and to make full use of modern technologies.
The Statement of Intent was outlined at the end of the
'Europe 2020' summit for church network leaders in May.
