Favour With God

Genesis 32:28 'Then the man said, "Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome."'
Jacob came away from his bout with the Angel of God a very changed man. What had happened to him that night? The con-man had become the contender (with God). The contender became the champion (of God). Jacob's name was changed to Israel, 'Prince with God'. A prince is someone who has the right to speak with authority before a king. Someone who can face a king without cringing! Someone to whom a king will listen! Jacob had come into a whole new level of favour with God. As he did with Jacob, God sometimes brings us to a point where all we want, all we desire, all we have left to hope for is his favour. When he gets us to the point, he can create in us the spirit of a prince – one who has the ear of the King!
Prayer: 'Lord, help me to hunger for favour with God more than anything else in this life. Help me, in the decisions I face, to come into your favour more and more.'
