Times Of Concealment

19 April 2024

Genesis 32:22-24 'That night Jacob got up and took his two wives, his two maidservants and his eleven sons and crossed the ford of the Jabbok. After he had sent them across the stream, he sent over all his possessions. So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak.'

You will go through different stages in the process of being enlarged to fill your God-given zone of influence. Whenever you are about to come to a new level you will face, as Jacob did, times of concealment. As he approached a potentially dangerous reunion with a powerful brother he had once cheated, Jacob sent three loads of gifts ahead of him. He wanted to 'soften up' his brother in advance. Jacob was doing what he'd always done best – manipulating a situation in his favour. But this time, he realized that this was not going to be enough. He needed help from a higher power. So, he sent his family and servants ahead of him and shut himself away with God. This was his choice – it wasn't something God had imposed on him. The most powerful choices are the ones you make when only God can see. Sometimes, before we can come into the promises God has made us, he will call us to shut ourselves away with him. God will remove everything we relied upon for our security, so that all we have left to wrestle with is God. In that place, we'll hear his voice and receive the promise that carries us forward to face the challenge.

Prayer: 'Lord, help me today to make time to be with you. Help me not to rely on my own cleverness to pull me through, but to position myself to hear your word in my heart so that I can fulfill my destiny in you.'
