Stewards Of God's Property

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 'Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.'(NIV)
Over the years, I have had several people loan me cars at different times when we've been conducting major outreaches to various cities and regions. Not long ago, a businessman friend loaned me a classic Mercedes Benz for a while. It was a very nice car to drive and came with all the benefits of that famous German engineering expertise. The car registration remained in his name, but I was free to use it in whatever way I needed. What a privilege and blessing. God has done the same thing with each of us. He has given us gifts, people and all the resources of our lives. They don't belong to us; they're on loan to us, we are stewards of God's property. Even life itself is a gift that's entrusted to us. While I was driving my friend's beautiful car, I felt very privileged to be enjoying such a fine piece of craftsmanship. Yet, I was always aware that the car was not mine, that someone else had paid a price for it, that one day the car would be delivered back to its real owner. I think being aware of that made me drive the car with a little more care. We should live each day as if our lives are not our own. Someone else has paid a high price to redeem us. As Christians, we are not masters of our own fate. One day, our lives will be returned to their rightful owner and we will get to be with the Lord forever. On that day, we will also answer for what we have done with the precious gifts God has entrusted to us. When we know that this car of life is not our own, we will be careful where we steer it and do our best to keep it in its original, spotless condition.
Prayer: 'Father, help me today to take very good care of the precious gifts you've entrusted to me, including my friendships, my finances, my talents, my career and my time. Help me to remember that I am bought with a price, that I am not my own.'
