The Love Law

Deuteronomy 6:5-6 ?Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. These commandments that I give you today are to be upon your hearts.' (NIV)
There are different kinds of love. There is the strong attraction a man may feel for a woman. There's the strong commitment felt between members of a family, such as the love of one brother for another, or the love of a parent for a child. But at its highest expression, love is more than any of these. In fact, love is, in its ultimate form, a law of the universe. This law is summed up in the words of Jesus: ?You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind and strength, and love your neighbour as yourself.' These, he said were the two greatest commandments. But notice which one comes first. Loving God, first and above all else, is the law underlying all of the universe. The universal law of love says that we must love God first, above and before all else. My good friend author and evangelist Winkey Pratney offers this insight: ?The love-law is eternal; it pre-dates, includes and supersedes all other laws ever given to man... It applies to all beings in earth and heaven, it is unlimited in its scope, eternal in its application.' He says that this law provides the only real measure for our true relationship with God: ?Do we love God first? Do we put Him and His infinite value first in all our daily acts and thoughts? Is it He Who is the star of the show for us?' Until we get that principle working in our lives, none of the other expressions of love in our lives will ever shine as they could.
Prayer: ?Dear Father, help me today to love you more than anything or anyone else in life, to put you first in every decision.'
