A Commissioned Mindset

Jesus left his followers with two great, central instructions. One we call the 'great commandment', the other has been called the 'great commission'. Like soldiers in an army, you and I have been entrusted with a great task. We are 'commissioned officers' in an army. We have orders to fulfil, a clear role to play and the authority to back that role. Everything we do in life, and every decision we make, must be aligned with our commission. It has two parts. The first involves the preaching of the gospel. The word used here means to proclaim, to communicate and to announce good news. That's not just something for full-time preachers. The second part of our commission involves making disciples, backing up our proclamation with the more labour- intensive, time-consuming task of leading believers to full-on maturity, so that they growing in a lifelong commitment to his cause. You and I don't need to wonder about in a cloud of uncertainty as to what our lives are really about. We have a clear commission to fulfil. It makes some decisions much easier to make when we look at them in this light, when we live with a commissioned mindset.
Prayer: 'Father God, help me by the power of your holy spirit to proclaim the good news about Jesus today. Help me to see ways in which I can share my faith, and ways in which I can help believers to go to a new level of maturity in you.'
