In The Mean Time…

03 December 2024

Joshua 14:10-12 '[Caleb said to Joshua]: "Now then, just as the LORD promised, he has kept me alive for forty-five years since the time he said this to Moses, while Israel moved about in the desert. So here I am today, eighty-five years old! I am still as strong today as the day Moses sent me out; I'm just as vigorous to go out to battle now as I was then. Now give me this hill country that the LORD promised me that day.'

As a young man, Caleb had been promised a certain piece of land as a reward for his bold faith in God. As an old man, he decided it was time to take hold of that inheritance. In between, he'd been helping others to fulfill their destinies under God. Now, it was his time. Sometimes, God's promises take time – even years – to fulfill. God, of course, sees time very differently to us. We shouldn't waste time complaining or 'wishing on a star' – or idly gazing out of the window. We should throw ourselves into service for the Lord, staying with our calling and investing in the dreams of others along the way. But we must never give up believing in the promise, even if it takes its time getting to us. And, when the time is right, we will be found ready to take on the challenge that will win us that ultimate prize.

Prayer: 'Lord, I know that not all of your promises to me will be fulfilled "overnight". Help me to be like Gideon. To keep the promise always before me, knowing that I will see it happen. In the meantime, train me so that I can take that territory when the time.
